My husband and I had been trying to conceive for over a year. We were frustrated, angry, sad, and depressed. After the fertility doctor offered us yet another medication to “help” us get pregnant, we took a step back. My husband took an entire day off of work and went to the Valley Forge National Historical Park to pray. At a place where so many battles had been fought, he prayed for wisdom on how to fight our own personal battle.
When he returned home, he had one word from God – TRUST. Questions started running through my mind… ‘That’s it? What does that mean? What are we supposed to do?’
One definition of trust is the confident expectation of something; hope. We figured out that God wanted us to believe that we would have children, no matter what the situation looked like. Be confident that it would happen, even if that meant waiting even longer.
As a child, you probably trusted your parents without a second thought. You believed that they would always be there for you, feed you, clothe you, give you the toys you wanted, keep you safe, etc. I like the picture of a daddy throwing his child into the air. That child trusts that His father will catch him. He is confident that he won’t let him fall.
When you tell someone, “I trust you,” you are telling them that you believe they will do what they said they would do. How much more should we be trusting in our heavenly father? Being confident that what He says he is going to do, he will do. The process may not be what you were picturing or hoping for, or even make sense, but if you trust in His process, you will be more blessed. When you put your FULL trust in Him, He will pour out your FULL blessing.
I wholeheartedly believe that if we don’t fully trust God, if we force the issue and try to do things our own way, God is restricted in rewarding us with the entire blessing He had prepared for us. He has so much more for you than you could ever ask or imagine. Children are a blessing any way they come to this earth, but if you want the more, you need to trust Him.
Just like a child feels safe and secure in the loving arms of his father, we can rest and feel safe in the loving arms of our heavenly father and trust that He won’t let us fall.
When I’m wanting to change my mindset on a certain topic to that of God’s mindset, I’ll search for scriptures that support what I’m wanting to change. I’ll select my favorites, then print them out and hang them in places I know I’ll be looking in frequently. That way I see them as often as possible and am reminded to thank God that what He says is true. Here are a few of my favorites on trust…
- Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
- Psalm 143:8 Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.
- 2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
- 2 Samuel 22:3 The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence.
